Commissioned by Goodyear Arts, Whether One is a work for 2 dancers.

This work was made collaboratively between Jennifer Sydor and Brian McGinnis as a way to explore what takes place when two people are engulfed by a force outside of themselves. The work draws from the power and awe of natural disasters and catastrophic weather, inspired by Haruki Murakami’s short story collection After the Quake, which takes place one month after the Kobe earthquake in Japan.  Simultaneously submerged in the sea of the past while suspended in a state of anticipation of what is to come, the dancers trudge, propel, float, fall and crawl as they grasp to understand their fate.

Whether One premiered in November 2016 at Goodyear Arts in Charlotte, North Carolina.
